WOMAD has been celebrating the Festival in Cáceres since 1992. One of the most characteristic features of this event is the place where the workshops and other open air activities are held. All the Festival takes the streets and squares of Monumental and Medieval City, both declared “World Heritage” by Unesco. The workshops take place inside the palaces and old houses of the Monumental City and the open air activities at the different squares and streets.
The Festival has turned into one of the most important cultural events in Extremadura, as well as one of the most crowded festivals in Spain. The attendance has been increasing with each edition, getting to the amazing number of 100.000 attenders in the last editions.
In 2011, WOMAD Cáceres celebrated its 20th anniversary.
